A neurosurgeon is a physician who is specialized in neurosurgery.

Huntington’s Disease

Huntington’s disease, also known as Huntington’s chorea, is an inherited disease that affects the nervous system. If one of your parents has this disease, you have a high chance of getting it. Huntington’s chorea causes certain nerve cells and neurons in the brain to waste away. As a result, a sufferer finds it very difficult to concentrate, read, remember or recognize family members.

Other symptoms of Huntington’s disease include uncontrolled movements, balance problems, clumsiness, fatigue and tiredness. In chronic patients, Huntington’s chorea takes away their ability to swallow, walk or even talk. However, most of them are able to express emotions and can recognize their environment.

The gene of this disease can be diagnosed with a blood test. Treatment aims at reducing some of the symptoms of Huntington’s disease.
