Common Neurological Disorders

Neurology is a branch of medical science that deals with the conditions, infections and diseases of the nervous system, which includes the peripheral nerves, brain, blood vessels, muscle, and spinal cord. There are many neurological disorders that affect the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system), peripheral nervous system and autonomic nervous system.

Common neurological disorders include dementia, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington disease, brain stroke, brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, depression, seizures, headaches, migraine, spinal cord injuries, nerve disorders, transient ischemic attack, brain stroke, nervous break down, neuropathic pain conditions, facial nerve problems, concussion, chronic pain conditions, trigeminal neuralgia and brain aneurysm.

The treatment options for neurological diseases include medication therapy and behavioural therapy. Many conditions such as spinal cord injuries, brain tumours, brain stroke and brain aneurysm may need a surgical procedure (neurosurgery). A neurosurgeon is a physician who is specialized in neurosurgery.

There are numerous supplements on the market that help maintain the health of central nervous system and peripheral nerves. Equazen Eye Q Mind is a popular brand on the market that includes a unique combination of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, B vitamins, magnesium and zinc in its formulation. Omega nutrients are required for healthy brain and nerve functions. Optimal neurological health is important for any task and research indicates that omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA and omega-6 fatty acids help enhance mental performance. Take one capsule a day, preferably at meal times to enhance the absorption of vitamins, minerals and fatty acids.

Aspartame is Harmful to Human Health

Aspartame, also known as 1-aspartyl 1 phenylalanine methyl ester, is a toxic substance that is made up of harmful components such as aspartic acid, methanol or wood alcohol and phenylalanine.

Aspartame is harmful to human health as it injures nervous tissues on a cellular basis. According to a recent research, frequent exposure to aspartame can lead to nerve cell death. Other health consequences of aspartame consumption may include dizziness, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, depression, irritability, seizers, muscle spasms, numbness, headache, short-term memory loss, lack of concentration, joint pain, palpitation, difficulty breathing, insomnia and constipation.

There are a few documented cases of aspartame users who developed brain tumours. Diet coke, diet sodas, energy drinks and soft drinks make a rich source of aspartame and their consumption must be avoided as much as you can. Moreover, aspartame is a common ingredient in many packaged foods, particularly those that are labelled as being low in calories or sugar-free. Examples of such food items include frozen desserts, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavours, artificial preservatives, yogurt, candy bars, cookies, cough candies, syrups and chewable vitamins. Make sure that you read through the list of ingredients on all beverages and packaged foods and avoid those that list NutraSweet and aspartame.
